Salzburg is the fourth-largest city in Austria and the capital city of the federal state of Salzburg. The name Salzburg literally means “salt-castle”. In the Old Town you will find world famous baroque architecture in abundance. It is one of the best-preserved city centers in the German-speaking world and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Transport Information

Salzburg Airport is located 4km (2.5 miles) west of Salzburg city center, and 2km (1.2 miles) east. It offers numerous flights to European destinations as well as international departures. The city is serviced by comprehensive rail connections, with frequent east-west trains linking Vienna, Munich, Innsbruck, and Zürich, including daily high-speed ICE services. The city acts as a hub for south-bound trains through the Alps into Italy. The Salzburg trolleybus system and bus network have a total of more than 20 lines, and service runs every 10 minutes. Salzburg also has an S-Bahn municipal railway system with four Lines (S1, S2, S3, and S11). Trains depart from the main station every 30 minutes.
