Officially the Federative Republic of Brazil, this is the largest country in South America and in the Latin America region. By size and population, Brazil is the world’s fifth largest country. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean along the eastside, providing a 7,491 km (4,655 miles) coastline. Countries on Brazil’s borders include Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Paraguay, and by Uruguay. The only two South American countries without a shared border with Brazil are Ecuador and Chile. There are numerous archipelagos within Brazil’s territory. Some of these island groups include Fernando de Noronha, Rocas Atoll, Saint Peter and Paul Rocks, and Trindade and Martim Vaz.

Business Information

Brazil has the largest national economy in Latin America. The country has abundant natural resources and a mixed economy that includes agricultural, mining, manufacturing and service sectors, as well as featuring a large labour pool. Brazil’s most notable technological hubs are the Oswaldo Cruz Institute, the Butantan Institute, the Air Force’s Aerospace Technical Centre, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, and the INPE. The most advanced space program in Latin America is the Brazilian Space Agency. There are many cities throughout Brazil offering great office space for national and international companies.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Brazil is a very diverse country. It is offers the wild Amazon rain forest, world class natural landmarks such as Iguacu Falls, the urban vibrancy of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnaval, and a radical football (soccer) tradition. There are many unique dishes in Brazil including feijoada, the national dish. This is a hearty stew made of black beans, pork (ears, knuckles, chops, sausage) and usually dried beef. The dish is served with rice, and then garnished with collard greens and sliced oranges.

Transport Information

The country of Brazil has several airports. São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport, near the city of São Paulo, is the largest and busiest airport in the country. This airport handles the vast majority of commuter and commercial traffic for the country, connecting with virtually all major cities across the world. There are 36 deep-water ports in the country of Brazil, including Santos, Itajaí, Rio Grande, Paranaguá, Rio de Janeiro, Sepetiba and Vitória. Long-distance buses provide inter-city links with services running almost every 15 minutes from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Local bus systems also function in most cities and towns and Metro rail networks run in major cities. There are limited passenger train services running in Brazil. Routes in operation include links between João del Rei and Tiradentes and Campos do Jordão to Santo Antônio do Pinhal.
