San Pedro de Alcántara (St. Peter of Alcántara) is a small town situated on the main Costa del Sol coastal road. It is 10 km (6 miles) west of Marbella in Andalucia, Southern Spain. The town is located on a stretch of coastal lowland, forming a broad fertile plain that is also named San Pedro de Alcantara.

In the woods next to the Bora Bora Beach Club you will find the Paleochristian Balisilica Church and Necropolis. On the west end of the seafront promenade, these 6th century ruins have been an important archaeological find. Artefacts from this site are displayed at the local museum and in the museums of Malaga and Marbella. They include skeletons, personal jewellery and clay vases. There are guided tours of the ruins several days a week. The local cuisine of San Pedro revolves around its crops and the seasons. One dining option is Restaurant Nuevo Reino which specializes in international cuisine. Another choice is El Rincon de La Sala, featuring international cuisine with added Spanish flavour. The menu includes items such as Chateaubriand, shrimps in a paper cone, and crayfish with garlic and chilli.

Transport Information

The nearest airports to San Pedro are in Málaga and Gibraltar and both airports are within an hour’s drive. The town can be easily reached from Málaga or Cádiz with the AP-7 motorway running from Algeciras in the south along the coast to Alicante to the north. A junction of the AP-7 is located on the periphery of San Pedro de Alcántara. This small, compact town can easily be navigated on foot.
