Canada Water is a busy area of south east London and forms part of the area known as Rotherhithe. The name itself refers to a freshwater lake which is a haven for wildlife within the area. Canada Water once made up the northern third of Canada Dock, which was predominately used by ships from Canada. The area has gone through a phase of rapid redevelopment, with purpose-built office buildings as well as residential complexes being built in the area. Southwark Council is continuing to develop the Canada Water, with the aim of eventually providing 2,500 new homes and 35,000 square metres of retail spaces.

Setting up your business here

Canada Water is part of the Docklands development, a hub for business and thus ideal for networking opportunities. The area is very well-connected by the Docklands Light Railway, and trains go direct to London Liverpool Street in the centre. If you are considering setting up an office in Canada Water, you will find there are many great options for serviced offices. The recent regeneration scheme also means there are all the shops and conference facilities you could need within easy access of the area. Citibank UK has a branch in Canada Water, and Decathlon are a retailer specialising in sports-wear. The impressive, purpose-built Canada Water Cultural Space can be hired for corporate events.

Things to do in Canada Water

The main attraction in Canada Water is the freshwater lake which is the only freshwater in the whole of the Docklands area. Designed by the landscape architect Fraser Borwick, it is kept topped up with freshwater using a state of the art wind pump. There is a new library in the centre of Canada Water, and also an Odean Cinema. Visitors may also enjoy a trip to Brunel Museum where they can learn all about the work of the famous Victorian engineer. Picturesque Southwark Park is within walking distance, and ideal for a lunchtime stroll. Café Deli Felice is popular for a light bite, and the Terrace Bar is perfect for entertaining clients in the evening.
