One of the major industrial regions in England, North East England stands at number six out of nine on the population-rankings amongst the country’s regions. Once a major shipping and coal-mining hub, the region saw major industrial development over the years although in recent years there has been a shift in the types of industries that the area is home to. The region is divided into four major areas including Teesside, Tyne & Wear, Northumberland and county Durham, each of which boasts its own unique character. There are a number of historical sites throughout the area such as Durham Cathedral and Lindisfarne Castle. Kielder Forest, in North East England, is the largest man-made forest on the entire continent.

North East England is slowly developing into a major commercial hub with companies like CE Electric UK setting up office space in the region. Great North Air Ambulance is based in the area while a number of graphic design firms, solicitors, publishing houses and building & construction companies also operate from here. The region also has many financial companies and insurance firms. Companies like Nestle, BAE Systems, Barclays Bank, KP Snacks, Procter & Gamble and Black & Decker have their offices or manufacturing facilities in the area.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Depending on your location, you can choose from a variety of entertainment venues offering everything from live-music to theatre. Seaton Delaval Arts Centre is a place to catch up on the performing arts while The Maltings is a cinema with a difference. Gala Theatre, in Durham, is a great place to watch exceptional stage productions throughout the year. Transport Information

A number of railway networks run through the region with the Durham Coast Line, East Coast Main Line and Northallerton-Eaglescliffe Line connecting the cities of Newcastle, Manchester, Durham, Darlington and others. The A1 and A19 Trunk Roads are major links for drivers and ground transportation services in the area while the A66 and A68 also pass through the region. North Shields is a major port in North East England, offering ferries to places like Amsterdam. Newcastle Airport and Durham Tees Valley Airport are the links to international air-travel.
