Markham is a city, located in Southern Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Regional Municipality of York in the Greater Toronto area. The city borders with five municipalities: Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Whitchurch–Stouffville, and Pickering. The terrain of Markham generally consists of hills, and is crossed by two rivers: Don River and Rouge River. In terms of population, the city is the fourth biggest in the Greater Toronto Area, behind Toronto, Mississauga, and Brampton.

Business Information

Markham’s major industries are technology and life sciences with more than nine hundred companies located within the city. They are home to some of the biggest employers Toronto, with IBM in the lead. Various international companies, such as Honda, American Express, Toshiba, Motorola, Apple Inc., have their Canadian headquarters here. Markham claims to be the Hi-Tech capital of Canada, offering a large choice of office space for companies.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Markham has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment and things to do. Among the major attractions are the historical village Main Street Unionville, and the Markham Theatre for Performing Arts. If you enjoy shopping, you can visit the Pacific Mall, the Market Village, or the Markville Mall. If you are in a mood for gaming and fun, Club 300 Bowl offers bowling and many other games. Eating out in Markham also involves diverse choices. Chinese food is extremely popular. Examples of places to dine include: Congee Queen – Chinese breakfast and stir-fried dishes and Bagahon – offering Singaporean food.

Transport Information

Markham is 40 km (25 miles) from Toronto Pearson International Airport. Public transit options to the city are also available, either from Toronto or York. Numerous highways, such as 407 and 404, make the city accessible for drivers. Public transport within and around the city is provided by the YRT/Viva transport network, which runs numerous bus routes around the city to ease road congestion. The city’s major central transport hubs are the Richmond Hill and Bernard Terminals, which serve a number of different bus routes.
