The United Arab Emirates is a country located on the south-eastern Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by the Persian Gulf, and the countries of Oman and Saudi Arabia. It is situated across the sea from Qatar and Iran. The country is often referred to as simply the UAE. It is divided into seven emirates or principalities. Each of these seven regions is separately governed by an Emir that inherited their position. These seven Emirs select one of their number to be the overall president of the UAE. The seven emirates of the UAE are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. The country’s capital city is Abu Dhabi.

Business Information

The economy of the UAE is strongly based in petroleum and natural gas exports, along with tourism, finance, real estate, and construction. The country has several major ports, including Port Jebel Ali, Port Rashid, Port Khalid, Port Saeed, Port Khor Fakkan, and Port Zayed. The modern areas of the United Arab Emirates have been well-planned and developed with an emphasis on national infrastructure. The UAE has created specialised ‘cities’ and free trade zones that are technologically advanced business and industrial parks, packaged with great financial benefits - in order to attract specific types of companies to the country. Examples would be the Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City. There are many large corporations and multinational companies with office space or other facilities in the United Arab Emirates including the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, Microsoft, Pepsi, Marriot Corporation, Fed Ex, Merck Serono, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, CNN, BBC, and Reuters.

Entertainment And Dining Out

In the United Arab Emirates there are beautiful white-sand beaches along the eastern coastline of the country. Some of the largest sand dunes in the world are located south of Abu Dhabi in the Liwa Oasis area. Impressive archaeological sites and natural rock formations can be seen in the Hajar Mountains. The UAE is also home to many natural wonders that include freshwater lakes, incredible waterfalls, vast deserts, and soaring cliffs. The country is also filled with man made wonders, such as Ski Dubai - a large, indoor ski slope offers year round skiing and snowboarding. In the larger cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi cuisines from around the world are available. Many of the restaurants, especially the fine-dining options, are located in hotels. Arabian cuisine offers several favourites that can be found in open-air cafes and local restaurants. These dishes include grilled chicken, Khubz - Arabic bread, hummus, and Biriyani - a popular rice dish.
