The state is home to four national parks, seven national monuments, two national recreation areas, two national historic sites, three national historic trails, one national scenic trail, 11 national forests, two national grasslands, 41 national wilderness areas, two national conservation areas, eight national wildlife refuges, 44 state parks, 307 state wildlife areas, and much more. A few of these include Arapaho National Recreation Area, Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site, Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, Chimney Rock National Monument, and Dinosaur National Monument. Colorado cuisine is often all about the meat. Beef is popular, so is fresh game, including Quail, rabbit, elk, venison, moose, and even rattlesnake. There are three specialty meats that are deeply associated with the state; these are Buffalo, Colorado Rack of Lamb, and Fresh Water Trout. The Denver Omelet is believed to have been devised in Colorado. Rocky Mountain Oysters are often found on the menu. These are bull or sheep testicles, flour battered and pan fried.

Transport Information

The largest and main airport in the state is the Denver International Airport (DIA). Located 27 miles from the capital, this airport is the 16th busiest airport in the world. There are regional airports located throughout the state. Amtrak operates two rail passenger train lines through Colorado, the Regional Transportation District operates a light rail transit system in the Denver Metropolitan Area, and public transportation services consist of intra-city and inter-city bus services.
