The Cascade Mountains divide Oregon from north to south, with most of the urban population located west of the mountains. Main tourist attractions include windsurfing on the Columbia River, skiing on Mount Hood, or exploring the Oregon Trail, Hell’s Canyon and Crater Lake National Park. Oregon’s cuisine is tied to the Pacific Northwest and reflects a noticeable Asian and Native American influence. Local ingredients include salmon, shellfish, freshwater trout, game meats, mushrooms, berries, small fruits, potatoes, and wild plants. The fish is often smoked or grilled on cedar planks. The famous brands Tillamook Cheese and Kettle Chips originated in Oregon.

Transport Information

The four largest commercial passenger airports in Oregon are Portland International Airport, Mahlon Sweet Field in Eugene, Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport, and Roberts Field in eastern Oregon. Eugene, Portland, and Salem have inner city public transportation systems, but to see most of the state you will need a car, which you can hire from one of the many dealerships.
