Seattle is a coastal seaport city in the U.S. state of Washington. It is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest region of North America and also one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. The Seattle metropolitan area is the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States. The city was named "Seattle" in 1853, after Chief Si ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. Seattle has since become a hub for "green" industry and a hub for sustainable development. The city has an interesting musical history. From 1918 to 1951, there were nearly two dozen jazz nightclubs along Jackson Street. The jazz scene developed the early careers of Ray Charles, Quincy Jones and Ernestine Anderson, among others. There are countless amenities in the city, including restaurants, comedy and jazz clubs, trendy bars, nightclubs, banks, convenience stores and coffee shops.

Things to do in Seattle

Seattle has been known as a regional center for the performing arts for a number of years. The Seattle Symphony Orchestra, which is among the most recorded in the world, performs primarily at Benaroya Hall. The 5th Avenue Theatre, which was built in 1926, stages Broadway-style musical shows and features both local talent and international celebrities. The city also boasts internationally acclaimed summer and winter chamber music festivals, which are organized by the Seattle Chamber Music Society. The city has many independent movie houses, which show both Hollywood productions and works by independent filmmakers. The Seattle Cinerama stands out as one of only three movie theaters in the world which is still capable of showing three-panel Cinerama films. The cuisine in Seattle is varied, with restaurants available to suit every palette. Andaluca, situated on Olive Way, features tapas-inspired plates of Mediterranean fare, crafted from fresh, seasonal Northwest ingredients. Brooklyn Seafood, Steak & Oyster House provides diners with prime cuts of meat, fresh seafood and the largest rotating selection of fresh oysters in the city.
