The Hague is the capital city of the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. It is the third largest city in the country, following Amsterdam and Rotterdam. This is the seat of the Dutch parliament, the Supreme Court, and many of the government functions. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands lives and works at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. There are many foreign embassies and international organisations in the city, including the International Criminal Court.

The Hague also has an active Chinatown with great Chinese food restaurants. Two dining choices include Haagsche brood – a famous local bakery offering specialties that include sweet bread filled with raisins and nuts, cookies, and chocolate. Bodega de Posthoorn - offers typical Dutch grandeur and a great place for a cup of coffee or a meal.

The nearest major airport is Rotterdam The Hague Airport. This airport has international flights from Rotterdam, Netherlands and is 23 km (14 miles) from The Hague. Another major airport is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which has international flights from Amsterdam and is 43 km (26 miles) from The Hague. There are two main train stations in the city, serving domestic and international routes. The Hague is connected by toll-free motorways to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. There is an efficient light rail system that serves The Hague city-wide, and a network of trams and busses. The Hague’s city centre is fairly compact and can be easily walked.
